Did you know….good quality sunglasses vs cheap ones

As we all know, summer is about having fun in our fantastic outdoors.  From water skiing, boating, fishing, surfing to just a nice long walk on the sand.

Most of us would not go out in summer without our sunglasses, but do you really know if they are protecting your eyes from the sun’s UV? Generally, sunglasses will decrease the intensity of everything by merely ‘tinting’ it.

What’s the harm?

They feel better because your eyes are relaxed and your pupils dilate behind them.  This means your pupils grow larger and allow more light in. So while you think your eyes feel relaxed and are being protected, they are actually more at risk of damage as they are receiving more UV light. This is why cheap sunglasses from budget stores or market stalls can sometimes be doing more harm than good.  A reputable supplier will give you all the advice and information you need to make the best choice, and they don’t need to cost a fortune.

Polarised Lenses

Polarised lenses are a popular option as they cut the intense glare (not just decrease the intensity like a tinted lens).  These are great for driving, water sports and general wear.

A mirror finish on the lenses will cut the glare even further as the mirror ‘ does the squinting for you’.
