After the age of about 45, our ability to focus on things close up decreases. This inevitable and ongoing condition is called presbyopia which is a reduced flexibility of the crystalline lens. As more time passes, the prescription required to correct the presbyopia increases. This is why reading glasses need to be regularly updated as we age.
